Contemporary house in the countryside

The client brief requested a family home with a large open plan living, dining kitchen space located in a rural setting in Co. Meath. The concept for the design and layout of the dwelling was a response to the site features and the context of the rural farm buildings in the locality.

The L-shaped house layout is a response to the orientation of the site in order to maximise natural light to the interior of the main living spaces and to capture the stunning views to the surrounding countryside.  As a result the house takes in a lot of natural resources such as sunlight and heat throughout the day. This  family home uses traditional rural building forms and proportions with contemporary features and detailing to create a stylish yet respectful aesthetic to its rural setting.

This bespoke mckenna + associates design allows for;

  • a spacious open plan kitchen,
  • dining and lounge,
  • 4 bedrooms,
  • 3 bathrooms,
  • entertainment room,
  • utility,
  • study,
  • Dogtrot / outdoor room,
  • Garage.

The form of this building is quite simple. Its main focus is to connect spaces and maintain good flow through the entire structure.

A new farmhouse for the Meath countryside.
